About Bryce
Bryce Richardson is a cool dude. Originally from Beaufort, SC and now based in Ann Arbor, MI, Bryce is currently pursuing his Master’s Degree in Bassoon Performance at the University of Michigan.
Along with becoming a finalist and performing at The Peace Center for the SCGSAH Senior Showcase, Richardson was awarded 2nd prize at the NewBassoon solo competition in 2019. At UNCSA, he was a semi-finalist in the 2018 woodwind day competition and a recipient of the Kenan Excellence Scholarship. He has been invited to play both bassoon and contra with many professional ensembles such as the Winston-Salem Symphony, Piedmont Wind Symphony, Midland Symphony Orchestra and the Western Piedmont Symphony. While also frequently performing chamber music with various groups, notably the Twin City Reed Quintet 2018-2020. Bryce emphasizes an importance on collaboration and creativity in his music making, and cares strongly about the power of art to generate social change.
Bryce is currently working towards his MM in Bassoon Performance with Dr. Jeffery Lyman at the University of Michigan and earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Bassoon Performance from the University of North Carolina studying with Professor Saxton Rose. He is also an alumnus from the South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities in Greenville, South Carolina. Other primary instructors include Sonja Coopenbarger and Michelle Krasinski.
